The 2023–24 FA Cup final was played between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium, in London. These two teams faced each other in the previous finals.
First half:
In the ninth minute of the first half, Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho had a shot on goal, but the shot was saved by Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. In the 30th minute of the first half, there was a miscommunication between goalkeeper Stefan Ortega and right back Joško Guardiol of Manchester City, and this resulted in an opportunity for Alejandro Garnacho. He put the ball into the empty net to give Manchester United a 1–0 lead.
A Manchester United goal in the 38th minute was disallowed for offside. Marcus Rashford scored from Alejandro Garnacho’s pass. But the assistant referee raised the flag and indicated offside.
After that, in the 39th minute of the first half, Alejandro Garnacho passed to Bruno Fernandes, he passed to Kobbie Mainoo, and he put the ball into the net. In this case, goalkeeper Stefan Ortega had no chance to save the goal.
At the end of the first half, Manchester United was leading 2-0.
Second Half:
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola substituted Jérémy Doku for Mateo Kovačić in the second half. After the inclusion of Jérémy Doku, Manchester City’s left side looked very active. In the 55th minute, Manchester City forward Erling Haaland’s shot hit the crossbar. Manchester City got another chance in the 65th minute. Phil Foden received a pass from Julián Álvarez, who came on for Kevin De Bruyne in the second half. Julián Álvarez’s shot goes wide of the post.
Manchester City scored a goal in the 87th minute of the second half. Jérémy Doku received the ball on the left side of the field, he cut to the right and took a powerful shot from just outside the penalty box and the ball went into the net towards the corner of the goalpost. It looked like we would see a Manchester City comeback after that. But despite playing for about 98 minutes with injury time, Manchester City could not score any more goals. Manchester City could not win the match despite keeping 74 percent ball possession in the whole match.
Result:
Manchester United won the final match 2-1 and with this Manchester United won the FA Cup in the 2023-24 season. This is their 13th FA Cup title.
