Italian Open 2024 Men’s Singles Semi-final 1

The first semi-final of men’s singles of the Italian Open 2024 was between Alejandro Tabilo of Chile and Alexander Zverev of Germany.

Set 1

In the 4th game of the first set, Alejandro Tabilo broke Alexander Zverev’s service. Alexander Zverev got a break point in the 5th game but Alejandro Tabilo saved the break point with a great service. He held his serve and went ahead 4-1. Alexander Zverev’s service was broken again in the 6th game and Alejandro Tabilo led 5-1 after the first 6 games. Alejandro Tabilo held his serve in the 7th game and he won the first set 6-1 in just 31 minutes.

Set 2

In the second set, Alexander Zverev regained some of his rhythm and he was serving great in this set. Alejandro Tabilo was also serving great. He hit some amazing forehands. Both held their service in this set. This set was settled in a tiebreaker. Alexander Zerev lost the point by making a double fault on the first point in the tiebreaker. In the third point, Alexander Zerev won a point from Alejandro Tabilo’s service and won the next two points of his service. Alejandro Tabilo won the 6th point on his serve, but he lost the 7th point on his service. After that, Alexander Zverev won two points on his service to lead 6-3. After that, although Alejandro Tabilo won the 10th point on his service, he could not win the 11th point. Alexander Zverev won the tiebreaker 7-4 and won the set 7(7)-6(4).

Set 3

Alexander Zverev broke Alejandro Tabilo’s serve in the third game of the third set. Then he held his service to take a 3-1 lead in the third set. Alexander Zverev broke the service of Alejandro Tabilo again in the 5th game. Alejandro Tabilo was making several unforced errors in the third set. Alexander Zverev held his serve in the sixth game and led 5-1. Alejandro Tabilo then held his serve in the 7th game. But he could not break Alexander Zverev’s serve in this set. Alexander Zverev held his serve in the eighth game to win the set 6-2.

Result

Alexander Zverev won 1-6 7-6 6-2. Even from a set behind, he recovered brilliantly and won the match. He previously reached the final of the Italian Open twice in 2017 and 2018 and won in 2017.
