IPL 2024 Match 60 – Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Mumbai Indians

The 60th Match of IPL 2024 was held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. The match started late due to rain and instead of 20 overs, it was a 16-over contest. Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl.

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings:

Philip Salt and Sunil Narine came to open for Kolkata Knight Riders. Kolkata Knight Riders did not get off to a good start as two openers got out within the first 2 overs. Philip Salt was dismissed in the first over off Nuwan Thushara. In the second over, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Sunil Narine. Kolkata Knight Riders then lost their third wicket in the fifth over, this time to Shreyas Iyer, who was dismissed by Anshul Kamboj. Venkatesh Iyer was playing well in the power play. Since it was a 16-over contest, the powerplay was of 5 overs. At the end of the first 5 overs of the powerplay, Kolkata Knight Riders scored 45 runs for 3 wickets.

After that, Nitish Rana came to bat and played well. Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana were playing smoothly, but in the ninth over, Venkatesh Iyer was dismissed by Piyush Chawla. Mumbai Indians get off to a good start. Opener Ishan Kishan started in a very aggressive manner. Another opener, Rohit Sharma, however, was not very aggressive. At the end of the first 5 overs of the powerplay, Mumbai Indians scored 59 runs without losing any wickets.

But Ishan Kishan got out soon after. He was batting brilliantly, but he was dismissed by Sunil Narine in the seventh over. He scored 40 off 22 balls which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. In the eighth over, Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Varun Chakaravarthy. He scored 19 runs. After that, Mumbai Indians lost four wickets in four consecutive overs from 11 overs to 14 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed by Andre Russell in the 11th over. Hardik Pandya was dismissed by Varun Chakaravarthy in the 12th over and Tim David was dismissed by Andre Russell in the 13th over. Nehal Wadhera was run out in the 14th over. However, in the 14th over, Tilak Varma hit 2 fours and 1 six in this over.

After that, Naman Dhir came down to bat and played well. 22 runs were needed for victory in the last over. But Mumbai Indians scored only 3 runs off Harshit Rana and lost two wickets of Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma. Naman Dhir was dismissed for 17 runs in 6 balls. He hit 1 four and 2 sixes. Tilak Varma was dismissed for 32 off 17 balls. He hit 5 fours and 1 six. At the end of 16 overs, Mumbai Indians scored 139 runs for 8 wickets and Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 18 runs.
