The 56th match of IPL 2024 was played between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and decided to bowl first. In today’s match, two foreigners made their IPL debut. They are Gulbadin Naib and Donovan Ferreira.
Delhi Capitals Innings:
For Delhi Capitals, their two young openers – Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel – got off to a great start. From the beginning of the innings, Jake Fraser-McGurk started to bat in a great offensive manner. He took 28 runs off Avesh Khan’s ball in the fourth over. But Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him in the next over. Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 50 off 20 balls. He hit 7 fours and 3 sixes. The opening partnership was of 60 runs and of this 50 runs came from the bat of Jake Fraser-McGurk. Shai Hope was unfortunately run out on the first ball of the 6th over. After the end of 6 overs of powerplay, Delhi Capitals scored 78 runs for 2 wickets.
After the dismissal of Jake Fraser-McGurk, another opener, Abishek Porel, took charge to attach the bowling attack of Rajasthan Royals and he and Axar Patel put on a partnership of 42 runs. Axar Patel was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin in the tenth over. Axar Patel scored 15 runs off 10 balls with 1 four and 1 six. After the end of 10 overs, Delhi Capitals scored 115 runs for 3 wickets .
Abishek Porel scored his first fifty in this year’s IPL by hitting a six in the next over. He was playing brilliantly. Abishek Porel scored 65 off 36 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. He was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin in the 13th over. Captain Rishabh Pant got out in the next over. He scored 15 runs. He was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal. With this wicket, Yuzvendra Chahal became the first Indian to take 350 wickets in T20 internationals matches.
After that, Tristan Stubbs played great in the last part of the innings for Delhi Capitals. He and Gulbadin Naib put on a partnership of 45 runs. Trent Boult dismissed Gulbadin Naib in the 19th over. He scored 19 runs off 15 balls. Sandeep Sharma dismissed Tristan Stubbs in the last over. He scored 41 runs off 20 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. After the end of 20 overs, Delhi Capitals scored 221 runs for 8 wickets.
For Rajasthan Royals, Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 wickets and Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Yuzvendra Chahal took 1 wicket each.
Rajasthan Royals Innings:
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler came to open for Rajasthan Royals. Rajasthan Royals did not get off to a good start as Yashasvi Jaiswal got out in the second ball of the first over. After this, captain Sanju Samson came to bat. He started batting in a very aggressive manner. Jos Buttler could have been dismissed on the first ball of the fifth over but Tristan Stubbs missed his catch. But he got out in the next over off Axar Patel. He scored 19 runs off 17 balls.
Then Riyan Parag who has been doing very well for Rajasthan Royals in this season came to bat .
After the end of the first 6 overs of powerpay, Rajasthan Royals scored 67 runs for 2 wickets. After that, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag played well and at the end of the first 10 overs Rajasthan Royals scored 93 runs for 2 wickets.
Riyan Parag got out in the last ball of the eleventh over. He was dismissed by Rasikh Dar Salam on a brilliant slower ball. He scored 27 runs off 22 balls and hit 1 four and 3 sixes. Then Shubham Dubey came to bat. Sanju Samson and Shubham Dubey put on a partnership of 59 runs and this partnership became quite a concern for Delhi Capitals. Mukesh Kumar broke this partnership. He dismissed Sanju Samson in the sixteenth over. Shai Hope took the catch on the boundary line although there is a debate whether the fielder touched the boundary rope while taking the catch or not. Anyway, Sanju Samson played brilliantly. He scored 86 runs off 46 balls which included 8 fours and 6 sixes.
In the next over, Shubham Dubey was also dismissed after scoring 25 runs in 12 balls. He hit 2 fours and 2 sixes. In the last three overs, Rajasthan Royals needed 41 runs to win. But Rajasthan Royals kept losing wickets one after another and finally they scored 201 for 8 wickets at the end of 20 overs and Delhi Capitals won the match by 20 runs.
For Delhi Capitals, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets each and Axar Patel and Rasikh Dar Salam took 1 wicket each.
