The 26th match of IPL 2024 was held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and elected to bat.
Lucknow Super Giants Innings:
Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul came to open for Lucknow Super Giants. Both the openers started very well. But in the 5th ball of the 3rd over, Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Quinton de Kock. Quinton de Kock scored 19 runs off 13 balls which included 4 fours. While KL Rahul was playing amazing strokes from one end, wickets were falling one after another from the other end. Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed in the 5th over. He scored 3 runs, Devdutt Padikkal failed again in this IPL. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Stoinis and Pooran in two consecutive balls in the 8th over. They both scored 8 runs and 0 runs respectively.
After that, KL Rahul also got out in the tenth over, then Lucknow Super Giants was on 77 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. KL Rahul scored 39 off 22 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. He was also dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant took a sharp catch. After that Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya could not make significant contributions for the team. They scored 10 runs and 3 runs respectively.
At that time, it seemed that Lucknow Super Giants might not be able to score more runs. But Ayush Badoni played brilliantly, he and Arshad Khan put on a partnership of 73 runs off 42 balls. Ayush Badoni scored 55 runs off 35 balls and he hit 5 fours and a six. Arshad Khan scored 20 runs off 16 balls with 2 fours. Delhi Capitals Innings:
Prithvi Shaw and David Warner came to open for Delhi Capitals with a target of 168 runs. After the first 3 overs, Delhi Capitals scored 22 runs without losing a wicket. But in the 4th over, David Warner got out unfortunately, he went to play a pick up shot, the ball hit the bat and then hit the wicket. He was dismissed by Yash Thakur. After he was dismissed, another Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk came in to bat. He played some great shots. At the other end, Prithvi Shaw also played with flair. Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Prithvi Shaw in the last ball of the 7th over, Nicholas Pooran took a great catch.
After this, captain Rishabh Pant came to bat. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Rishabh Pant put on a partnership of 77 runs off 46 balls, which laid the foundation for Delhi Capitals’ victory. Rishabh Pant played some great shots behind the wicket. Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 55 off 35 balls and hit 2 fours and 5 sixes. Rishabh Pant scored 41 runs off 34 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Jake Fraser-McGurk was dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq in the 15th over. Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi in the 16th over and KL Rahul stumped him calmly.
Even though two set batters were dismissed in two successive overs, Delhi Capitals had no difficulty in winning. Tristan Stubbs and Shai Hope both took Delhi Capitals to the target with 11 balls remaining. They remain unbeaten at 15 runs and 11 runs respectively.
Ravi Bishnoi took 2 wickets for Lucknow Super Giants and Naveen-ul-Haq and Yash Thakur took 1 wicket each.
