The 17th match of IPL 2024 was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings. Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to field.
Gujarat Titans Innings:
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was aggressive from the beginning of the innings. Another opener, Wriddhiman Saha was not able to score run quickly today and he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada on the last ball of the third over.
After that Kane Williamson came to the crease. His strike rate was not too high today, he scored 26 runs off 22 balls and was dismissed by Harpreet Brar in the ninth over of the innings. After that, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan made a partnership of 53 runs off 32 balls. Sai Sudharsan got out in the fourteenth over by Harshal Patel after scoring 33 balls in 19 balls. He hit 6 fours.
Shubman Gill remained unbeaten with 89 runs off 48 balls. He hit 6 fours and 4 sixes. Rahul Tewatia came in to bat at the fourth down, he scored an unbeaten 23 off 8 balls. At the end of 20 overs Gujarat Titans scored 199 runs for 4 wickets.
For Punjab Kings, Kagiso Rabada took two wickets. Harpreet Brar and Harshal Patel took one wicket each.
Punjab Kings Innings:
The beginning of the innings of Punjab Kings was not good at all. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed by Umesh Yadav in the first ball of the second over. While cutting the ball outside the off stump he dragged the ball back onto middle and leg stumps. Jonny Bairstow started well but was dismissed by Noor Ahmad on the first ball of the 6th over. Noor Ahmad’s Googly broke the defence of Jonny Bairstow. He scored 22 runs of 13 balls.
Prabhsimran Singh played well. He scored 35 off 24 balls and hit 5 fours and 1 six. After that Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza could not contribute much. They scored 5 and 15 runs respectively. Jitesh Sharma scored 16 runs off 8 balls with 2 sixes.
But Shashank Singh played superbly. He scored an unbeaten 61 off 29 balls. He hit 6 fours and 4 sixes. He was ably assisted by Ashutosh Sharma. He scored 31 runs off 17 balls with 3 fours and 1 six.7 runs were needed for victory in the last over. But Ashutosh Sharma got out on the first ball of the last over. Then it seemed that there would be another twist in the game. Then Shashank Singh hit a 4 on the fourth ball of the over and the scores of both teams were level. He took a single run off the next ball and Punjab Kings won the match.
For Gujarat Titans, Noor Ahmad took two wickets. Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav, Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, and Darshan Nalkande took onw wicket each.
