The eleventh match of IPL 2024 was between Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings. This match was held at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and elected to bat.
Lucknow Super Giants Innings:
The two openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul started batting aggressively for Lucknow Super Giants. When KL Rahul started attacking Arshdeep Singh in the fourth over, he got out in the fifth ball of the over, scoring 15 runs in 9 balls. Bairstow took a good catch at backward point.
Devdutt Padikkal then got out for 9 runs off Sam Curran in the 6th over. At the end of 6 overs of powerplay, Lucknow Super Giants were 54 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Marcus Stoinis then came in to bat on second down and started batting aggressively, he was bowled out by Rahul Chahar in the 9th over. He scored 19 runs off 12 balls with 2 sixes.
While wickets were falling at one end, Quinton de Kock was playing brilliantly at the other end. At the 4th wicket, he and Nicholas Pooran put on a partnership of 47 runs off 27 balls. Then Arshdeep Singh dismissed Quinton de Kock on the first ball of the 14th over and Jitesh Sharma took the catch. Quinton de Kock scored 54 runs off 38 balls and hit 5 fours and 2 sixes. Nicholas Pooran was looking Dangerous and he was out bowled by Kagiso Rabada in the first ball of the 16th over. He scored 42 runs off 21 balls which included 3 fours and 3 sixes.
At the very end of the innings, Lucknow Super Giants reached 199 runs thanks to Krunal Pandya’s 43 runs off 22 balls. He hit 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Sam Curran bowled well for Punjab Kings, he took 3 wickets. Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets and Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar took 1 wicket each.
Punjab Kings Innings:
Captain Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow got off to a great start for Punjab Kings. At the end of 6 overs of power play, Punjab Kings scored 61 runs without losing any wickets. Shikhar Dhawan brought up his fifty with a maximum off Ravi Bishnoi on the 4th ball of the 8th over. At the other end, Jonny Bairstow was equally aggressive. At the end of 10 overs, Punjab Kings reached 98 runs. Both the openers were looking unstoppable then.
But Jonny Bairstow got out on the 4th ball of the twelfth over, he was dismissed by Mayank Yadav. Jonny Bairstow scored 42 runs off 29 balls which included 3 fours and 3 sixes. Prabhsimran Singh came in next, he also started well, but he was dismissed by Mayank Yadav for 19 off 7 balls in the 14th over. After that, Jitesh Sharma did not stay at the wicket for long, he got out for 6 runs and Mayank Yadav took the wicket again.
Shikhar Dhawan was then dismissed in the 17th over by Mohsin Khan. He played a brilliant innings of 70 runs off 50 balls which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. Sam Curran was out for 0 runs in the next ball of this over. Liam Livingstone tried his best in the end but it was not enough to win the match. He scored 28 off 17 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. At the end of 20 overs, Punjab Kings scored 178 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.
