India clinched victory in the opening Test of the India-West Indies Test series by an innings and 140 runs. The win came with two days remaining, showcasing India’s dominance in both batting and bowling. West Indies’ first innings:
West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first. In their initial innings, West Indies were dismissed for a mere 162 runs, with Justin Greaves being the top scorer at 32 runs. KL Rahul scored a century, Dhruv Jurel made 125 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten with 104 runs. Notably, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja formed a remarkable partnership of 206 runs in the middle order. Ultimately, India declared their innings at 448/5. During this innings, West Indies bowlers managed to take two wickets through Roston Chase, while Jayden Seales, Warrican, and Khary Pierre each took one.
West Indies’ second innings:
The West Indies began their second innings facing a deficit of 286 runs, but their batting performance mirrored that of the first innings, as they again collapsed, scoring only 146 runs. In this innings, Ravindra Jadeja captured four wickets for India, while Mohammed Siraj took three, Kuldeep Yadav claimed two, and Washington Sundar added another. Mohammed Siraj’s brilliant performance throughout the match saw him obtain a total of seven wickets.
Player of the match:
Ravindra Jadeja’s outstanding contributions with both bat and ball earned him the man of the match distinction.
With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series, and the next Test will commence on October 10, 2025, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Before this match, India was positioned third in the World Test Championship points table. Following this victory, their points percentage increased to 55.56, yet they remained in third place on the table.
