IPL 2024 Match 7 – Chennai Super Kings Vs Gujarat Titans

The 7th match of IPL 2024 was held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Only yellow colour was visible throughout the gallery. Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans in their home match today and moved to the top of the points table. It seems that this game is the most one-sided game of this year’s IPL till today.

Chennai Super Kings Innings:

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra came in to open for Chennai Super Kings. Azmatullah Omarzai almost dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over but Sai Kishore dropped the catch at first slip.

Rachin Ravindra started playing aggressively. He was scoring at a blistering pace from the second to the fifth over of the innings, sometimes attacking Umesh Yadav and sometimes Azmatullah Omarzai. Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill then brought Rashid Khan into the attack in the 6th over and he dismissed the dangerous Rachin Ravindra and Rachin Ravindra was stumped by Wriddhiman Saha. Rachin Ravindra scored 46 off 20 balls and hit six 4s and three 6s. At the end of 6 overs of powerplay, Chennai Super Kings were 69 runs for 1 wicket.

Ajinkya Rahane came in to bat next and although he didn’t bat very aggressively today, he and Ruturaj Gaikwad made a partnership of 42 runs. In the 11th over, Ajinkya Rahane came down the track and was stumped by Wriddhiman Saha off Sai Kishore.

After that Shivam Dube came out to bat and even after the dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the thirteenth over, he did not let the run-scoring pace slow down. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 46 runs off 36 balls. Shivam Dube was well supported by Daryl Mitchell and they made a partnership of 57 runs off 35 balls.

When Shivam Dube looked unstoppable Rashid Khan came to bowl in the 19th over and dismissed him. He played with similar fluency against both spin and fast bowlers. Shivam Dube scored 51 off 23 balls and hit two 4s and 5 6s. Then Sameer Rizvi came and hit two sixes in this 19th over off Rashid Khan.

Youngstar Sameer Rizvi scored 14 runs in 6 balls and Daryl Mitchell scored 24 runs unbeaten. At the end of 20 overs, Chennai Super Kings were 206 runs for 6 wickets and this is the second highest team run of this IPL till date.

Among the Gujarat Titans bowlers, Rashid Khan took two wicket and Sai Kishore, Spencer Johnson and Mohit Sharma took one wicket each.

Gujarat Titans Innings:

The opening partnership between Wriddhiman Saha and captain Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans did not last long as Shubman Gill was given out lbw off Deepak Chahar for 8 runs in the third over. A good start from Shubman Gill could have taken Gujarat Titans to a good position and his early dismissal was a big blow to Gujarat Titans.

With a target of 207 runs, Gujarat Titans did not start well and at the end of 6 overs of powerplay, Gujarat Titans were 43 runs for 2 wickets. Vijay Shankar, who came down to play on second down, did not last long and was dismissed by Daryl Mitchell. Dhoni took a excellent diving catch to his right.

After that, Sai Sudharsan and David Miller were trying and they put together a partnership of 41 runs off 26 balls. In the twelfth over, when David Miller was dismissed by Tushar Deshpande, Gujarat Titans’ chances of winning were greatly reduced. Ajinkya Rahane took a great diving catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss David Miller.

In the fifteenth over, Sai Sudharsan was out for 37 off Matheesha Pathirana. At the end of fifteen overs, Gujarat Titans were 114 runs for 5 wickets and needed 93 runs in 5 overs to win.

It seemed impossible to win by maintaining an asking rate of 18.6 and to win the rest of the team’s batsmen ie Azmatullah Omarzai, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan had to play extremely well. But these three batters scored 11, 6, 1 runs respectively. Gujarat Titans scored 143 runs for 8 wickets at the end of 20 overs. Umesh Yadav and Umesh Yadav both remain unbeaten with 10 runs and 5 runs respectively.

Among the Chennai Super Kings bowlers, Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tushar Deshpande took two wickets each and Daryl Mitchell and Matheesha Pathirana took one wicket each.
