Result:

India triumphed over Pakistan in yet another lopsided contest. Following the group stage encounter, a similar narrative unfolded in the Super Four match. I published an article on the match between India and Pakistan in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2025, and it is: India Dominates Pakistan in Asia Cup Clash and handshake controversy during the toss and after the match.

Pakistan’s unsportsmanlike behaviour:

Pakistan struggled in both batting and bowling during this game, though they engaged in unsportsmanlike conduct, with opener Sahibzada Farhan celebrating with a subpar imitation of a gun, Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf behaving abnormally on the boundary line, and Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf, alongside Shaheen Afridi, attempting to irritate the Indian openers, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, after enduring a tough time against them. Such actions do not reflect a healthy mindset. Had the Pakistan players focused more on the match instead of these antics, the match could have been a far more entertaining experience for the spectators.

India’s fielding was not good:

Nevertheless, although India emerged victorious, their fielding left much to be desired. They dropped four catches, three of which were routine, and missed two run-out chances.

Toss:

Now, let’s briefly recap this match. India won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Pakistan innings:

Pakistan batted first, managing to score 171 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan was the top scorer for Pakistan in this match, scoring 58 runs off 45 balls. Additionally, Saim Ayub contributed 21 runs, Faheem Ashraf remained unbeaten with 20 runs, and Mohammad Nawaz also scored 21 runs. In the opening over of the game, Abhishek Sharma missed a catch of Sahibzada Farhan from Hardik Pandya’s delivery, with Sahibzada Farhan yet to score. Later, in the fifth over, Kuldeep Yadav failed to catch Saim Ayub off Varun Chakaravarthy’s bowling, while Saim Ayub had scored 1 run at that point. Had those two catches been taken, Pakistan could have been limited to a much lower score. Jasprit Bumrah, India’s leading fast bowler, appeared quite ineffective during this match. He conceded forty-five runs in four overs, which is unusual for him. In contrast, Shivam Dube delivered an impressive performance, taking two wickets for 33 runs in four overs. At the conclusion of 10 overs, Pakistan scored 91 runs while losing 1 wicket. However, following that, Shivam Dube and the Indian spinners excelled, resulting in Pakistan reaching 129 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 17 overs, meaning India executed a solid strategy in limiting the runs while also claiming three wickets. Nevertheless, Pakistan scored forty-two runs in the last three overs, and therefore Pakistan managed to accumulate a respectable total of 171 runs.

India Innings:

The Indian openers, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, aimed to chase down 172 runs. Having played together since school, their synergy was exceptional. In the power play, the two openers appeared to dominate against Pakistan. No matter how much the Pakistani bowlers sought to rattle them, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill continued to produce spectacular shots. While Abhishek Sharma exhibited a fiery approach, Shubman Gill demonstrated finesse. Both players delivered remarkable performances. India had scored 69 runs within the six overs of the power play. By the time Shubman Gill was dismissed in the tenth over, India had already reached 105 runs, needing only 67 runs off 61 balls to secure victory. This was not a daunting challenge for India’s batting lineup. Shubman Gill scored 47 runs off 28 deliveries. Following this, Suryakumar Yadav went out for a duck, but there was no question concerning India’s win. Abhishek Sharma was also playing aggressively at the other end, unfortunately getting out while trying to hit a six just as a century seemed within his reach. He finished with 74 runs off 49 balls. Ultimately, India won comfortably by 6 wickets, achieving 174 runs for 4 in just 18.5 overs with 7 balls to spare. Tilak Varma concluded the match calmly, remaining not out with 30 runs off 19 balls.

Player of the match:

Abhishek Sharma received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance with the bat in this game.

India 7 – Pakistan 0:

India has triumphed in all of its last 7 encounters against Pakistan in recent white-ball formats, resulting in a 7-0 record over those matches. So, India 7 – Pakistan 0 is real, not a ‘social media’ fantasy.

I have uploaded a video on YouTube in Bengali related to the topic discussed in this blog, and you can find the link to that video here:
