IPL 2024 Match 6 – Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Punjab Kings

The sixth match of IPL 2024 was held between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Until today, all the teams played one match each. Today was the second match for both these teams of this IPL. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and chose to field.

Punjab Kings Innings:

Punjab Kings’ innings did not start very well. In the third over, Jonny Bairstow was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj caught by Virat Kohli. After that, Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh started to build a partnership. Both were playing aggressively.

But in the ninth over, Glenn Maxwell broke the partnership of 55 runs by dismissing Prabhsimran Singh. Prabhsimran Singh scored 25 runs. Liam Livingstone came to bat after that.

On the last ball of the twelfth over, Liam Livingstone was out for 17 off Alzarri Joseph and caught by Anuj Rawat. After this, the next ball of the next over was the fall of a Punjab Kings wicket again. This time captain Shikhar Dhawan was out. He was dismissed by Glenn Maxwell and caught by Virat Kohli. Shikhar Dhawan scored 45 runs in 37 balls. He hit five 4s and a 6.

Sam Curran batted brilliantly in the previous match and played an innings of 23 runs off 17 balls. Sam Curran and Jitesh Sharma put together a partnership of 52 runs. Sam Curran was dismissed by Yash Dayal in the 18th over and Jitesh Sharma was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the 19th over. Jitesh Sharma scored 27 runs off 20 balls with a 4 and two 6s. Shashank Singh also batted very well and he also hit a 4 and two 6s and scored 21 runs off just 8 balls. Punjab Kings scored 176 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Among the Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowlers, Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell took two wickets each and Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph took one wicket each.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru:

Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli both came out to open the batting. Sam Curran came in to bowl the first over for Punjab Kings and almost dismissed Virat Kohli on the second ball of the over but first sleep fielder Jonny Bairstow missed a straight forward catch. It is often seen that big players score big when given such an opportunity and Virat Kohli’s 77 runs paved the way for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s win. But after that, Virat Kohli hit three amazing 4s in this over.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s opening pair, however, did not last long as du Plessis was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada in the third over and the first wicket fell for 26 runs. Virat Kohli, however, continued his aggressive batting. He hit three 4s off Arshdeep Singh in the 4th over. In the fifth over, Kagiso Rabada took a wicket again, this time he dismissed Cameron Green andJitesh Sharma took a very good catch. At the end of 6 overs of the powerplay, Royal Challengers Bangalore was 50 for 2 wickets.

Although not many runs were scored in the seventh and eighth overs of the innings, 16 runs were scored in the ninth over. In this ninth over, both Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli hit an over boundary off Rahul Chahar’s ball. At the end of the 10th over, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were 85 for 2 and needed 92 runs in 10 overs to win.

In the eleventh over, Rajat Patidar was dismissed by Harpreet Brar. In the 11th over, Rajat Patidar was dismissed by Harpreet Brar but Virat Kohli was looking unstoppable and hit a 6 and a for 4 in the twelfth over off Harshal Patel. Glenn Maxwell was bowled by Harpreet Brar in the thirteenth over.

When Virat Kohli was dismissed for 77 off 49 balls off Harshal Patel in the last ball of the 16th over, there was a doubt whether Royal Challengers Bengaluru would win as they needed 47 runs off 24 balls to win. But Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 28 runs off 10 balls and Mahipal Lomror scored 17 runs off 8 balls to give Royal Challengers Bengaluru a win.

Among the Punjab Kings bowlers, Harpreet Brar and Kagiso Rabada took two wickets each and Sam Curran and Harshal Patel took one wicket each.
